Integumentary System

Giraffes have “horns” that are made of bony core covered by a permanent epidermis.
Their skin coloring provides excellent camouflage, as it has many different patches of variable size and color.
Giraffes skin is very thick, which gives it protection and insulation from the weather and sun. The giraffe also has long eyelids keep out ants and sense thorns on the branches of the trees that they feed from.
